Daily Workshops - Wednesday 15th May 2024
The third day of the School Programme sees author and Illustrator Sophy Henn join Podcaster Iszi Lawrence and local writer Paul Wreyford adding some inspirational workshops. There are a limited amount of spaces available for each workshop/session, but there is plenty on offer!
You will notice that each artist has all the information on their workshop, including the content, the audience age range and number of students and the timings of each session. This should help you to make an informed decision as to whether this session is suitable to you. Ideally the children will be made aware of the author’s work and books before the person arrives at your school. All the sessions will be the author visiting your school and will ideally have some help from one of our Volunteers. We do ask that if you require additional safeguarding paperwork for visitors, that you contact our Event Programmer to request any additional information that will help to speed up the signing in process. Â
HOW TO BOOK – Places are booked on a first come, first serve basis. Once you are happy with your choice, you can then quote the author/artist name and number of session/s you are interested in then pop an email to our Event Programmer; Richard Wolfenden-Brown to book a space on info@northcoastarts.co.uk.Â
Bude/Stratton Schools have priority booking from 19th January until 19th February. These then open up to other schools via an invitation email, which is due to be delivered to schools on 20th February 2024.
All the workshops are interactive and relevant across the curriculum. They offer exciting opportunities for active participation across the whole school age range from Reception to 6th Form. They are free, thanks to support by Bude Stratton Town Council plus local businesses and individual sponsorship.

Wednesday 15th May 2024
KS3 for Creative Writing Workshop and Year 6 for Writing a News Story Workshop (One Class per Workshop)
Session 1 – Creative Writing WorkshopÂ
Students will have a go at writing a novel (or at least to begin one). In small groups, they will work together to come up with some of the ingredients needed to write a book: a plot; a chief character; a title; an opening paragraph and even the blurb for the back of the book. Students will learn from a published author what goes into writing a book and also gain tips to improve their own creative writing skills.Â
Session 2 – Writing a News Story Workshop
Students will get the chance to become newspaper reporters. They will attend a âpress conferenceâ in the classroom following a pretend major incident and then write up their stories (writing a news story is part of the English curriculum). The students will also learn about the newspaper industry and have a go at some other fun journalism activities. Â
Local writer Paul Wreyford had a 25-year career as a journalist on newspapers throughout Britain and abroad, before becoming a published author of both fiction and non-fiction books.
